Workshop on Wireless Networking for Science in Africa
ICTP-Trieste
11—22 March 2013
A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location.
Products using the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standards are marketed under the Wi-Fi brand name. Fixed wireless technology implements point-to-point links between computers or networks at two distant locations. It is often used in cities to connect networks in two or more buildings without installing a wired link.
Since 1995, the Wireless Lab has held some 50 training activities attracting more than 2400 participants, from Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe and Americas as well as from international organizations.
