SG 9- some key areas of study -
High Density systems in FS and FSS
- high concentration of terminals in a given area
- FWA to wide range of services
- HD FS spectrum: between 30 to 60 GHz
- HD FSS spectrum: currently under study
Notes:
- 3rd item - High density systems refer to high concentrations of terminals in a given area; for the FS, studies relate to the growing number of point-to-point and point-to-area systems providing FWA to a wide range of services stemming from bb applications to low cost monitoring facilities. From such studies, spectrum was made available by WRC-2000 in bands between 30 and 60 GHz together with power limits and sharing criteria.
- Similarly, high density systems in the FSS reflect the increasing need for large numbers of satellite links in a confined area; used for FWA applications, often broadband, to GSO and NGSO satellites. WRC-2000 asks for identification of suitable bands, essentially above 19 GHz, with a view to harmonising such allocations on a global basis and not to constrain the development of other systems, notably in the FS and BSS. It is the sharing aspect with the FS where SG 9 is involved.
