Now will take each of the 7 SGs in turn and, after describing their overall scope, will take two or three examples of current topics that each is addressing.

• Starting with SG 1 which deals with Spectrum Management: although could be argued that all SGs deal with spectrum management, SG 1 addresses fundamental aspects and principles (e.g. involving the effective utilization of spectrum both nationally and internationally) and also techniques to support good spectrum management practice (e.g. spectrum monitoring).

• Another important area is to study specific questions of inter-service sharing that may arise – questions that are not being dealt with in the service SGs. [A recent example was the revision of the technical procedure for determining the coordination area around satellite earth stations – this revised procedure being agreed as Appendix S7 of the RR at WRC-2000.]
