These studies stem from a request from WRC-2000 to react to the emergence of applications referred to as “terrestrial wireless interactive multimedia applications”. What such applications have in mind is the provision, in the future, of broadband high capacity radio access networks.
Such applications are a prime example of technical convergence between what are usually seen as traditionally distinct services as defined in the RR. The scope of such applications is seen as impinging on fixed, mobile and broadcasting.
