SIMPLICITY IS THE KEY.

Today's sessions were all with Prof Bhaskaran Raman, which were actually a continuation from what he gave yesterday.

We looked at MAC and ROUTING protocol issues in Sensor Networkings. The main messages is that there is no one solution for all types of applications. The protocol design should be application dependent. That is why we went through different MAC and Routing protocols in some details. Sensor networking applications case studies were given yesterday in Volcano, Habitat, Redwood, Bridge and Industrial monitoring to use as references in the discussions of the different protocols.

Specific areas covered were MAC, (S-MAC and B-MAC) protocols.Routing protocol approaches(Data Centric and Directed diffusion). Transport approaches(PSFQ).Time synchronisation(FTSP). Difference between wired and wireless protocols.

Practical Exercises

We started the practical exercises yestersday and continued today. The exercises used information from http://www.tinyos.net/tinyos-2.x/doc/html/tutorial/ and http://www.moteiv.com. We used the TINYOS,MOTE, and nesC language for the exercises.

First we blinked the LEDS of the device, then counted and displayed the last 3 bits of the count using the 3 LEDs of the Mote device. The next task was to send data to another Mote and then receive data from another one. Next was to get the mote device to dump packets to PC console. Next was to access data from the sensors.
