[edit] A sunny day !
Since our arrival in Trieste the weather is rainy. It is the first time that we have as much sun!
I hope that we will have same kind of weather tomorrow for the outdoor activities ...
[edit] - MORNING -
9:00 - Lecture on "SITE SURVEY" by E. Pietrosemoli
Mr E. Pietrosemoli began by a brief presentation of site survey tools and he continue by detailing the following points :
- Requirements for the base station mounting structure
=> we have to avoid installing WiFi antenna on a.m. radio tower
- Different Antenna mounts options
(free standing pole, side mounting pole, penetrating and non-penetrating roof ...)
- Security
=> We have to pay a great attention to security : a advice from R. Flickenger according to his personal experience !
- Typical installation including "Base station mounting considerations" as well as "Subscriber Antenna mounting considerations"
=> We must remember that: - the connectors are significant points which are often neglected in the installations - the Fresnel-zone has to be thought as volume ! It has to be taken into account even if we have we have very good line of sight
Before the end, the professor gave a exercise which we unfortunately did not have time to treat
- 10:00 - Coffee Break
- 10:30 - Lecture on "POWERING ISSUES" by E. Pietrosemoli
After the break, we continued with Mr Pietrosemoli on the "Powering issues". In his pesentation the Lecturer approached successively the following points:
- Grounding and Bounding
- Ground Resistance objectives
- Metal corrosion
- Electrical Power Faults
Mr E. Pietrosemoli terminated is presentation by an interesting development on POE : Power of Ethernet.
- 11:30 - Lecture on "LOW POWER SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURE FOR ICT4D" by Stephen OKAY
This lecture conducted by Mr S. Okay has permitted us to have a better knowledge of "Low Power Systems". The main points aborded was :
- Characteristics of Lower Power Systems
(Notes : Wifi device like Ap, router... can use PoE, Power consumption of desktop PC range from 160 to 185 W without monitor and from 190 to 255 W with 17" monitor ...)
- Designing of Lower Power Systems
- System Software Guidelines
- Power Inputs
- Storage for Low Power Systems (compact flash, micro drive, Nand flash drive ...)
- 12:30 - Lunch Break
[edit] - AFTERNOON -
The activities envisaged in the afternoon were deferred for reasons administrative. We were indeed invited to go to the Visa Office for our "permits of stay".
- 16:30 - Pratical session with Mr S. OKAY
