[edit] Mesh Networking (by Rob Flickenger)

We started with the day with a very interesting lecture on MESH NETWORK by Rob Flickenger.Mesh Network is defined a network that employs one of two connection arrangements,

[edit] Full Mesh or Partial Mesh Topology

In the full mesh topology, each node isconnected directly to each of the others. In the partial mesh topology, nodes areconnected to only some, not all, of the other nodes." Image:mesh21.jpg

The lecturer did not stop here ,he went further to explain to the advantages and issues(trade off) of mesh network with the following headings:

Advantages: Low Cost ,Distributed Ownership Models ,Gradual Deployment of Infrastructure ,Simple:Self configuring ,Robustness Issues: ,throughput ,latency ,Scalability ,Security ,IP Distribution. Rob also talk about the various routing protocol of mesh network namely:OSLR,TBRPF,HSLS,MMRP,OSPF,AODV and he did forget to tell us about merit and demerit of each routing protocol. At 10:20 am,we took a 20 minutes recess(Coffee Break) to refresh the body and soul,to return for the class on WIFI security.

[edit] WiFi Security (by Rob Flickenger)

After the coffee break, the Wifi Security Class by Rob Flickenger begins by highlighting the reason why security is a problem, who creates security problems, the basics security tools and lastly the encryption basics.

Cryptography was traced back to the use of private key and how the distribution of private key through a secure channel later led to the development of public key cryptography. Of note in the public key cryptography was the RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) algorithm. However, even the introduction of the Public Key Cryptography later led to the problem of authentication. This was however solved with the issuance of trusted third party certificate and signature encryption.

The classs ended by 12.20pm and I went for lunch at the cafeteria, well I think others too did the same.
