Propagation overIrregular Terrain
Site shielding - determining the shielding by a hill or mountain of an earth station from a terrestrial station sharing the same frequency
Notes:
- Many irregular terrain calculations concern the diffraction of potentially interfering signals over hills and mountains where frequencies are shared. When earth stations share the same frequency bands as terrestrial microwave stations, site shielding is often employed whereby a hill is purposefully used to protect an earth station from interference. To ensure that the shielding is effective, it is necessary to calculate the magnitude of the diffracted signal arriving at the earth station.
