SG 8- some key areas of study (continued) -
RLANs (Nomadic Wireless Access)
- broadband NWA
- e.g. wireless access to labtop computers
- frequency spectrum and standards harmonization
Notes:
- Unlike wired LANs, broadband RLANs provide portability, e.g. BB RLANs connected to labtop computers. The aim is for BB RLANs to be compatible with wired LANs with comparable data rates and in certain cases to serve as wireless extensions to wired LANs. Portability – hence “nomadic”. Studies continue in SG 8 on defining a standard and identifying spectrum requirements.
