Daily Review of the School on Radio use for ICT
by Hamad Mustafa Babiker
Sudan

Today was a very eventful way. It started by waking up to good but some what
cold wheather in the morning. The number of participants seem to be more or
less the same.

Dr. Struzak started the day by giving us a very interesting lecture on
antenna fundamentals. I think he did a very good job of covering quite a
large topic. During the lecture Dr. Struzak mentioned that Abdus Salam gave
a theory in 1979 that indictated electromagnetism and weak interaction are
principles of the same phenomenom. Now before I came to the ICTP I didnt
really know who Abdus Salam is but after evrey day that passes, I discover
more and more that he was a great man.

I enjoyed the lecture very much especially the part about using an explosive
technique to create parabolic dishes. Towards the end of the lecture Dr.
Radicella broke us the good news of having a coffee break at 10:30. Dr.
Luther then broke us the bad news of having a home work to do. Well, he
thinks its bad news but I think that it is going to be quite enjoyable to
do.

Immediately after lunch break Dr. C.Fonda gave us a very exciting lab that
first covered the topic of measuring losses at various frequencies using
various cables using a signal generator and power meter. He then went on to
talk about how to measure the power transmitted from and power reflected to
antennas by conducting an experiment using a real antenna.

The day finally ended after a get-together party which was really exciting
with lots of nice sea food which I really enjoyed. All the people who
attended the party seemed to have a nice time.
