Brief history of OSs evolution (3)

  • in 1991 Linus Torvalds (Finland) creates Linux, a free port of Unix for x386 PCs

  • in '90 the OSs market offers many choices (some 10 different OSs exist just for Intel-based PC and there are many other hw platforms too), but it becomes dominated by Microsoft products

  • in late '90 there are few choices remaining for PCs, apart of Windows 9x and NT

  • nowadays Linux is the most promising OS for the enterprise/servers market (despite of Microsoft effort to impose NT), when Windows is predominating in the SOHO and home market

    ...in future, maybe... NOT :)
