Distance Education - Collaborative learning

Goal: possibility for students to interact with peers and instructors at a distance.

From years of experience, IT needs to adapt, as much as possible, to the manner in which educators work and reduce the amount by which we ask educators to change.

Need to distinguish between collaborative learning and electronic publishing of teaching materials.

Other conclusions drawn from collaborative learning experiences:

  • It is not a way to reduce teacher workload for the teacher!
  • It does not require less time for the student. Extra time is being used in actions that increase the students awareness of the learning process at many levels. These include not only interactions with the instructor but with other students.
