Diary of 20 Feb 2002. Wednesday The day started late as only two participants were there. Prof. Radicella came down searching the members if any sitting in the computer room. Few were there and he instructed gently to move to class Room, which ofcourse was followed by the group. The day's first part was dealt by Mr. T. CESKY from Luxembourg, a professional from a private organization called SEA-ASTRA," The subject of today was Digital Broadcasting : Implementation of new services and their position in multimedia communication world." It was very nice to have the senior professional like him for the presentation. He delivered very good presentation cum lecture. He started with statement that this will be too ambitious to complete the subject in this short time , but he did his best . Though he had assumptions that the gathering of student participants are aware of basics, which is not always true. Prof. Struzak , has been instrumental in simplification of the gaps in understanding and on behalf of the participants he posed few questions , which in turn helped in further development of understanding. It was only two lectures comprising of 3 hrs to account of Mr. T. Cesky and he tried his best. The requirement of Digital Broadcasting was dealt at length, then Terrestrial v/s Satellite broadcasting, Growth in Digital Drives Satellite market was discussed. Terrestrial Broadcasting , T-DAB and DVB-T with case demonstration and much more was part to his presentation. Session II The session two was also very important. Which started with presentation again from the Industry i.e. TELIT Dr. Guido Walcher from the same industry gave his illustrating presentation and the subject was CELLULAR SYSTEM : TOWARD 3G , there was a new style in his presentation he explained every thing in normal forwared style and at the end he sumerrised in reverse order. He was accompanied by his colleague Mr. Alberto Cerdeira from the same Industry. He had a subject of 3G WIRELESS SYSTEMS : UMTS It was indeed another impressive presentation. LUNCH; Today was a real short break for the lunch , but there was no way to manage the time other than this. We been to TELIT works center and introduced to many testing facilities. I had a privilege to see such setups, in India, but many of us visited such ones for the first time. Indeed it was a very good industrial visit. Thanks to TELIT for the courtesy and special thanks to ICTP organizers for such practical short but useful visit. Logistics were also tied-up by Telit, thanks once again for the courtesy. It was very nice of Mr. Struzak to accompany us a team leader with associate team leader Mr. Carlo fonda. Special thanks to Mr. Carlo for information updates and guidance on the Trieste route, Tourist places and lots of info regarding Venice , nearby places and Tervisio . The visit concluded at 18:00 hrs sharp as per Schedule. Sunil Vyas. Digvijaysvyas@hotmail.com Vyass@ictp.trieste.it link to the TELIT website: http://www.telital.it
