Recommendation P.833
Geometry of path
- one terminal in woodland
- both terminals outside vegetation
Loss mechanisms
- attenuation due to scattering out of radio path (dB/km)
- surface wave over vegetation “slab”
- forward scatter within vegetation
- diffraction over or around vegetation
Dominant loss mechanism dependent on:
- relative distances of terminals from woodland
- thickness, type and height of foliage
- frequency
Notes:
- Two basic geometries to consider
- Several possible propagation mechanisms
- The relative magnitude of the propagation mechanisms depends on the properties of the path
- Need to know the specific attenuation of the vegetation which itself will depend on the type of vegetation, e.g. foliage, structure.
