Project requirements and general information
- Interconnection of the five Units of the Campus (Computer Center, Faculties and Departments) must be provided.
- Wired LANs inside each building must connect all existent PCs to the network.
- TCP/IP protocol must be implemented.
- Minimum speed must be 2 Mbps for building-to-building connectivity, 10 Mbps inside buildings.
- Fast deployment and easy setup and maintenance are strongly requested.
- Low costs (see the budget).
- Security issues must be taken in account.
- The network must be open to future upgrades (more bandwidth).
- The point of connection to the Internet will be placed at the Computer Center.
- Initially a link with telephone leased line to an ISP will be provided (33.600 bps).
- Speed improvements in the link with ISP are expected after a short period.
- A schematic global project is requested for the Campus interbuilding connectivity (common part)
and five specific projects are requested to the Units for the building networks (specific parts).
- Technical and economical aspects that are considered important for the planning
should be clearly listed and described.
- A forecast of the total costs for setup and use of the system during a period of 5 years
is requested for the final approval of the project.
- The Administration of the University will be pleased to provide all the information
useful for the planning of the project, like maps, details about the buildings, technical specifications and costs of equipment, or whatever else they will be asked for and able to provide.
