what a warm welcome it was!
In
the morning it took place for the registration, the processes were smoothly at
the operation office but at the bank, it took us so many times. After that we
heard a very comprehensive introduction to ARPL activities, some statistics on
visitors to ICTP and ARPL future activities. by professors Radicella and
Struzak who are school's directors.
We received 1 book on networking and wireless and a USB key.
· Wireless Networking in the developing world
Joel gave us the first lecture. He introduced networking Basics and routing concepts, refreshing whatever we had study before. You can see the details at this web page http://wireless.ictp.it/groups/school2010/wiki/9ac7b/Networking_Basics_and_Routing.html
A walkthrough of the iso-osi model, TCP/IP model, ip addressing, netmasks, subnetting, and troubleshooting.
Joel also introduced networking tools on linux: these were
· ifconfig to check the status of the network interface
· tcpdump can be used to inspect all kinds of trafic on the network for diagnostic purposes.
· ipcalc - this gives an analysis of an ip address, it takes an ip address and netmask and calculates the resulting broadcast, network, cisco wildcard and host range.
· wireshark - for traffic monitoring and analysis
· mtr - matt's trace route, provides a quick way to analyze network problems by combining traceroute and ping in a single command and gives statitics like losses between routers or hosts
At the end of the day, we did pratical examples on the ubuntu operation system.
