DEMO PROJECT ON WIRELESS NETWORKING FOR KENYA COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY
OBJECTIVES
- To reach 40% of the stsff community currently not connected onto KCCT network.
- To serve the student community through a Cyber Cafe.
- To provide Internet service at KCCt conference hall and hotel for seminar participants.
- To establish regional training centre for the East African region in wireless networking.
BACKGROUND
- KCCT hosted Radio Africa workshop in 1997 with the theme " " .Partial funding and lectures facilitated by ICTP
- KCCT hosted Radio Africa workshop in 1997 with the theme " Use of Radio for ICT in rural Africa" " .Partial funding, lectures and demos facilitated by ICTP
- During the 2005 ........,Kenya first proposed a wireless networking project at KCCT
- KCCT subsequently formed a project team to give technical details of the project
EXISTING NETWORK AT KCCT
- Three campuses, HQ, City Centre and Loresho.
- HQ has 300 PCs interconnected with a leased Internet link of 128K.
- City Centre has 200 PCs interconnected with a leased Internet link of 128K.
- Loresho Campus has 100PCs interconnected with a dial up line to the Internet.
- Campuses interconnected by 64K leased lines
TECHNICAL SUMMARY-LINK BUDGET OF WLAN
The link budget parameter results:
1Receiver sensitivity of -94dBm at 1Mbps embraced.
Received signal strenth of -76.55dBm is realised promising good reception.
3.and worst fading margin of 19.45dB estimated.
PROJECT ESTIMATE COST
The project is to be implemented in two major phases:
- Phase I-Wireless LAN to cost - 9,014 Euros.
- Phase II-Wireless WAN to cost -30,484 Euros.
FINANCING OF THE PROJECT
KCCT is appealing to /or to be our development partners espcially ICTP to extend goodwill in form of funds and materials to help us construct this project and make it ICTP/KCCT success Training Center for EAST/CENRAL AFRICA REGION.
