MAIN OBJECTIVE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Public Service network is an initiative of the National Information Development Agency (NITDA), an agency set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure the implementation of the National Information Technology (IT) Policy and to coordinate and regulate the development and regulation of the Information Technology sector. The PSNet was necessitated by the need to put in place a highly efficient Information Technology system in place for Public service sector of the economy to operate. Most Government offices and parastatals in each states of the Federation are located several kilometers away from each other within the same metropolis, therefore in choosing a method of connection, different criteria were considered. Thus wireless networking was considered appropriate for connecting the different offices of the government agencies, secretariats and establishment. Basically, the project consists of a broadband wireless base station located at the secretariat of each state capital or any other chosen location depending on the peculiar nature of each state. Other remote locations, which can be the Governors lodge, Government house, ministries, research centres and parastatals that are located within the wireless local loop can be connected to the base station via a subscriber unit.
